PV*SOL premium 2024 now with orthophotos and elevation data via the Google Solar API

The latest version of PV*SOL premium 2024 (download free trial) introduces an exciting update: high-resolution orthophotos and elevation data are now available via the Google Solar API. This makes the PV design in 3D even faster and more accurate.

With a resolution of 0.1m per pixel, orthophotos provide detailed, distortion-free aerial images and show buildings and roof surfaces precisely from above - ideal for PV module placement.

Each point on the orthophoto is also assigned a height value. PV*SOL premium can therefore automatically create 3D buildings with the correct eaves or ridge height and roof pitch. The 3D terrain model, including the surrounding buildings and trees, is also generated from the elevation data. It serves as the basis for precise shading simulation - and offers impressive views.

A detailed step-by-step guide can be found on the PV*SOL help pages and in this video.

To use the new interface, you will need a Google account with a stored payment method. An API key for the Solar API can be created there, which must be transferred once to PV*SOL premium. The cost per request (i.e. per downloaded data set of 200m x 200m orthophoto and elevation data) is currently 0.075 USD. Billing takes place directly with Google.
